Back up the SSRS Encryption Key

Procedure 4 of 23 associated with Step 2 - Change the Computer Name, Domain, or Workgroup of an Individual Managed server.

 

Perform this procedure only if you are changing the name of the computer running SQL Server that hosts the Reporting Services Server role in the Data Center that provides reporting services for Workforce Management (WFM), Scorecards, eLearning, Coaching, Customer Feedback, Interactions and Speech Analytics products. database. Otherwise, skip this procedure and continue to Change the Management Services Account and Database Management Account for the server.

In this procedure, you back up the SSRS Encryption Key on the server that hosts the Reporting Services database. (You will be required to restore the Encryption Key backup in a subsequent procedure.)

  1. On the computer running SQL Server that hosts the Reporting Services database, open the Reporting Services Configuration Manager.

    Click Start > All Programs > Microsoft SQL Server R2 > Configuration Tools > Reporting Services Configuration Manager.

  2. Click Yes when prompted to allow the program to make changes to this computer.

  3. In the Reporting Services Configuration Connection screen, click Connect to connect to the Report Server Instance that hosts the Reporting Services database.

  4. In the Reporting Services Configuration Manager, click Encryption Keys in the left pane.

  5. In the Backup section, click Backup.

  6. In the Backup Encryption Key screen, complete these fields.

    • File Location: - Select the directory where you want to store the Encryption Key backup.

    • Password: - Enter the password that protects the Encryption Key backup from unauthorized access. (You will be required to enter this password to successfully restore the Encryption Key in a subsequent procedure.)

    • Confirm Password: - Re-enter the password specified above.

      • Be sure to note the file location and the password of the Encryption Key backup file. You must know this information to restore the Encryption Key in a subsequent procedure.

  7. Click OK.

  8. Enter a file name for the Encryption Key backup file, and click Save.

  9. Click Exit.
